In collaboration with a small association, the former pastor Peter Freimark compiled countless every day items from GDR times. He was able to hold on to numerous historical objects, and even went to the rubbish dump to save unique material from destruction. The collection provides great insight into the everyday life of the GDR based on original living rooms and bedrooms, children’s rooms, a grocery store (“Konsum”) and a typical GDR restaurant, as well as myriads of books, brochures, posters and other material. Everything here can be touched and thoroughly studied. Some parts of the museum deal with the National People’s Army (NVA), the GDR’s block parties and the state security apparatus.
