The Franciscan Monastery of Kyritz, situated on the northwest edge of the historic old town, was first mentioned in 1303 and was once one of the most important monasteries in the Mark Brandenburg. Over the coming years, the area will be developed into the Kyritz Monastery Cultural Centre. However, it is nonetheless worth visiting today: the local history association has set up an exhibition on local history in one building. Visitors can immerse themselves in days gone by and soak up the architecture, nature and culture in the church and monastery garden. The renovated north wall of the monastery church, gate house, town and monastery wall and garden gazebo offer a unique setting for exhibitions and various open air events: theatre performances and readings, dances and concerts, markets and festivals.
