More than 30 stork couples raise their young ones in the European Stork Village Rühstädt in the Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape Biosphere Reserve. This makes Rühstädt one of the largest white stork breeding colonies in Germany. From mid-March onwards, the globetrotters land with a clatter on their large nests on roofs having flown thousands of kilometres.

This is why Rühstädt visitor centre offers background information on the white stork in the »Weltenbummler Adebar« (Adebar Globetrotter) exhibition arranged by NABU, the German environmental organisation. The exhibition “storks around the world” gives insights into all 20 stork species and their role in culture and legend. In addition, visitors can watch live broadcasts of the stork couples feeding their young ones on the roofs in summer. Exciting scenes from the storks’ lives are presented in videos, 2 of them in English.
