This third stage of the FONTANE.RAD route takes in old mixed woodlands and farmlands. The first stop is Zippelsförde, a village with a large fish farm and fishing ponds. Fontane devoted a lot of attention to the next stop of the bicycle tour, namely Molchow: he enjoyed the “bright and light” atmosphere of this village which has a single bell tower at its centre. At the end of this short stage, the tour leads to Fontane’s birthplace: Neuruppin. Just outside the historic town centre is one of the oldest bathing establishments in Germany – Seebadeanstalt Neuruppin. In cold weather, the Fontane Therme thermal spas provide comforting warmth with a sauna set in the lake. The town offers numerous insights into the life and work of Theodor Fontane. The 3.5 kilometre Fontane Town Tour is just one of them. It starts directly at Rheinsberger Tor.
