During the Reformation, the Dominican monastery in Neuruppin was dissolved in 1541. This meant the end of Catholic life throughout the entire church district. Catholic clerics only returned to Neuruppin in 1849 and were also responsible for Fehrbellin. In 1858, Catholic services were held in the master baker’s storeroom on a site opposite the current church. The house at number 42 was then purchased and “Missionsstation Fehrbellin” was set up. This explains the simple appearance of the church building in a former residential house.

Inside the church, there are bronze Stations of the Cross and a replica of a Gothic statue of Mary.

During the time of the GDR, a further site was acquired at number 43 and a nursing home was set up, but this was closed again after the political changeover in 1997. Since 2004, Fehrbellin and its “Mariä Himmelfahrt” (Ascension of Mary) church has once again belonged to Pfarrei Herz-Jesu (Parish of the Heart of Jesus) in Neuruppin.

The church is part of the “Open Churches” initiative and is open daily. Mass takes place on Sundays at 8 a.m. The church is accessed via the house entrance. Contact: +49 3391 2922.
