According to an inscription in the sacrament niche to the left behind the altar, the current church in Dorf Zechlin dates from 1549; the building was probably built at the beginning of the 16th century. Even though the Reformation has already reached the area by 1539, the sacrament niche from the previous building was kept when the church was being extended or redesigned. The church probably served as a refuge for marauding hordes – a wooden door latch inside the tower bears witness to its defensive nature.

It was extensively renovated in 1722. The Baroque high altar by the master carpenter Chr. Kühne with paintings of The Last Supper, The Crucifixion, The Resurrection and the Ascension by Chr. Schlichting date from this period. The pulpit and baptismal font with the striking cover modelled on the Brandenburg electoral crown of about 1600 date from the mid-17th century. The Schuke organ from Potsdam dates from 1913.
