The Oder-Havel Canal is 54 kilometres long and connects the Havel near Oranienburg to the Alte Oder near Niederfinow. The section described here runs from the border with the district of Barnim near Zerpenschleuse lock to Lake Lehnitzsee and from Lake Lehnitzsee further on to Hennigsdorf. Pike and perch are among anglers’ favourite species here.

This canal section is managed by Kreisanglerverband Oberhavel under the reference number P 14-206; the association also sells day, week and month permits. It is maintained by the Niederheide Angling Association. Fully paying members of DAV Berlin – LAV Brandenburg can fish here free of charge. What is more, the use of 2 rods and night fishing are allowed here. In Brandenburg, coarse fishing is permitted without a permit, so holidaymakers can fish to their hearts’ content here. You will need a coarse fishing permit, however, which is available at almost all tourist information centres.

Fish species: eel, ide, perch, pike, zander, catfish/wels catfish, asp, chub
