Menz – a village set amid forests and lakes. This village is located in the northernmost part of the Oberhavel district, 80 kilometres north of Berlin between Rheinsberg and Fürstenberg/Havel, at the heart of the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park. Its history can be traced back to the 13th century. Made famous by Theodor Fontane’s “Walk through the Brandenburg Marches” and the legendary Lake Stechlinsee, it is the sheer natural beauty that is so striking here – in particular the magnificent Lake Roofensee: this is what gives the village its appeal. Embedded in this extraordinary natural diversity lies the forest park Waldpark am Roofensee. Reserved for diplomats during the GDR era, the complex was completely renovated in 1997 and fitted with tasteful, high-quality furniture. The buildings are generously distributed over the 40,000-square-metre forest plot. Lake Roofensee is situated 20 metres lower down, directly on the grounds.
