After Spandau, Nieder-Neuendorf and Hennigsdorf, Oranienburg with its baroque castle is the next rewarding stop. Through the unique landscape of the Kremmener Luch, the route continues in a tranquil manner to the peaceful Bützsee lake. On On the Lake Ruppiner See, at 14 kilometres the longest lake in the country, there is much more going on.

The Fontane town of Neuruppin is always worth a visit. As you stroll along the alleyways you follow in the footsteps of the great poet and of the legendary architect Schinkel. The journey continues along the picturesque Ruppin chain of lakes to the destination in Lindow (Mark).

Length: about 99 kilometres / 2-3 days

Start: Berlin / Finish: Lindow (Mark)

Route: Oder-Havel Canal, Ruppiner Canal, Lake Bützsee, Rhin, Lake Ruppiner See, Lake Molchowsee, Lake Tetzensee, Lake Zermützelsee, Lake Möllensee, Lake Gudelacksee.

Detour: to Linum and Fehrbellin (17.5 kilometres one way)

On-shore outings:
  • Oranienburg: Palace and park
  • Altfriesack: Drawbridge (technical monument)
  • Wustrau: Palace with landscape garde
  • Neuruppin: classicist town ensemble, birthplace of Theodor Fontane and Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Tempelgarten, Neuruppin museum, St. Marien parish church, St. Trinitatis monastery church, Altes Gymnasium (old grammar school), Siechenhauskapelle St. Laurentius chapel
  • Lindow (Mark): Monastery ruins

Lake/river profile: varied; rivers, canals and lakes; navigable with charter licence from Rhin tributary; shallow depth on Lake Bützsee (pay attention to buoy markings), no connection for motor boats to the waters of Rheinsberg and the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte lake district; 5 locks

Driving licence: After the Altfriesack lock, the area can be navigated without a driving licence.
