The more than two-hundred-year-old Glasmacherhaus (glassmakers’ house) today houses Stechlin tourist information centre and the exhibition “Twelve Stories of Glass”. The stories tell of the head of the glassworks – Madame Pirl – the founding of Neuglobsow and the glassmakers’ life and hard work.

This is how Fontane described the glassworks in his novel Der Stechlin: ... “This is Globsow colony. It is where the glassblowers live. And behind it is the glassworks. It was built under the reign of Old Fritz and is called the green glassworks. The green glassworks? That almost sounds like something out of a fairy tale. But it appears to be rather the opposite. The name comes from the fact that green glass is made here– the most unusual bottle glass. You can forget gold-rimmed ruby glass here – that wouldn’t suit our district” ...

Today this so-called “forest glass” is rare. The museum shop sells books, maps, regional items and selected green glass rarities. Even children can have fun at the glassmakers’ house! There are manuals, an audio story station and a lovingly designed marble run. The building offers barrier-free access.
