As soon as you enter, you sense the completely distinct atmosphere – you can feel it in every corner of this old building: this place is somehow different! There are grids on the windows, spyholes and feeding hatches in the doors, inscriptions and paintings by the former prisoners on the walls and on the old stoves.

In the cells you will find information about shipping, especially Finow Canal, the history of Liebenwalde and its districts, the history of the churches, schools, fire brigade and clubs, the pursuit of crafts and trades in the past and the “Heidekrautbahn” railway. There is also a “real” prison cell.

The former prison courtyard is now the museum courtyard – providing a somewhat more convivial venue for events that it once did.
