The lock in Bredereiche, a district of Fürstenberg/Havel, is part of the Upper Havel Waterway. When the first lock was built here in 1737, it became a boating village. From 1950 to 1952, a new lock was built parallel to the old one. A hydroelectric power station is now operated in place of the old lock. Because freight ships no longer use the Upper Havel Waterway and passenger ships only use it occasionally, it has become a popular area for water tourists. The lock is operated on a self-service basis.
