The capital was bursting at the seams and building materials were in short supply: right on cue, clay was discovered north of Berlin and the largest brick production site in Europe was established. In the heart of the town is the Ziegeleipark – the brickworks park. Surrounded by water, monuments from the industrial boom period and the unique clay pit landscape, you can set off on a voyage of discovery.

Or less watch the woodlands, the old brickworks and the lakes pass by on a tour of the nature park in the clay truck railway – the “Tonlorenbahn”. Meanwhile the exhibitions and multimedia presentations “Bausteine für Berlin” in the ring kiln and “Werktätige im VEB” in the machine brickworks contain a wealth of hands-on exhibits.
