Two oxbow lakes were connected to the river by pipe culverts only. These two oxbow lakes were then reconnected to the river. This was done by removing the pipe culverts and creating a wide opening between the two dead channels and the river. As a result, the weir can now be bypassed along an extended stretch by fish and other aquatic organisms.

Creating continuity in this way is a key component of the measures being adopted to revitalise the Schnelle Havel.
