In the lower part of the Thorn-Eberswalde glacial valley, where the Warta River flows into the Odra River, there is a bird paradise, the National Park "Ujście Warty". Here people can hear not only the rustling and the noise of the many species of birds. The protected area, which consists of a dense network of canals and oxbow lakes, has served for centuries to drain the Warta estuary. Nevertheless, after a snowy winter the water level of the Warta can rise up to 5 meters. This can be observed especially in the southern part of the park. Since the Warta River divides the National Park and the dam north of the Warta River is of sufficient height, the so-called "northern polder" is not exposed to such high fluctuations of the water level.

Start/ Finish: Küstrin-Kietz / Kostrzyn train station
Length: 85 km; Duration: approx. 7 h
Arrival and departure: RB26 from Berlin Ostkreuz to Küstrin-Kietz

Start and finish of this bike tour through the Polish Warthebruch is the train station Küstrin-Kietz or after completion of the Oder bridge the train station Kostrzyn on the Polish side. Passing the fortress of Küstrin, the route follows the national road 22 in the direction of Słońsk, where the European Cycle Route R1 also runs. In Chyrzyno is the seat of the park administration. During the opening hours of the park administration, in addition to information about the park, it is possible to climb the tower and visit the "Natural Garden of the Senses". The "Natural Garden of the Senses", being designed in the form of interactive games, is especially enjoyable for the younger visitors.

Not far from the administrative headquarters on a route about 1 kilometer long, young and old explorers can acquire knowledge about the functions of wetlands.

After a few kilometers, another observation tower offers an impressive view of the river delta. Just before Słońsk, the new National Park Museum (Ośrodek Muzealno-Edukacyjny Parku Narodowego) provides information about the park "Ujście Warty" with its 250 bird species.

If you want to take a look at the family life of birds, you can make a detour to Przyborów. From here, an approximately 2 km long "concrete path" leads along the "Postomia" canal.

In Słońsk you will pass the St. John's Order Church and the ruins of the St. John's Castle. Behind Kłopotowo flows the Warta River, which can be crossed by ferry during the season and shorten the tour. Otherwise, a narrow road leads along the dike with a wonderful view of the water to Świerkocin. Here the cycle path SWa: Szlak Warta leads always following the control room to the west.

Halfway back in the direction of Kostrzyn, it is worth making another detour to the "Erlenbrüchen". Here you can find a 3 km long circular path through the currant alder forest. From the observation tower or from the observation hut in a marshy area, the birds can be observed at close range.

Tip: Don't forget binoculars! It is advisable to check the water level in the park. It can happen that some hiking routes are flooded and the visit is not possible.
