From a Chinese pagoda to a country house typical or the Mark Brandenburg region, this tour is different to what you would expect. From Asian plants to rural areas: the cycle trip from the "Gardens of the World" recreational park in Marzahn to the green suburbs of Berlin is one of the most contrast-rich tours between the capital city and Brandenburg. Heading from the starting point at Ahrensfelde in Berlin along the Wuhletal Cycle Path, cyclists reach the "Gardens of the World", a recreational park characterised by Far Eastern and Oriental garden art.

Length: 17 kilometres

Start: Hönow underground station
Finish: Ahrensfelde S-Bahn (rapid transit train) station

Logo / route sign: not specified

How to get there: Take the U5 underground line from Berlin Alexanderplatz to Hönow (about 30 minutes)
Return journey: Take the RB25 regional train from Ahrensfelde to Berlin Ostkreuz, then take the S7 line of the S-Bahn (rapid transit train) to Ahrensfelde (about 30 minutes)

Route: Hönower Siedlung, Kausldorf, Marzahn-Hellerdorf, Ahrensfelde

Route description: Cycle through the beautiful Wuhletal Valley along a green strip of land taking you through Marzahn and Hellersdorf. There is little evidence here of the dreary pre-fabricated buildings. Three impressive “peaks” rise up in the middle of the town, including the 102-metre high Kienberg hill. But visitors can also put their climbing skills to the test at the so-called Wuhletalwächter, a 16-metre climbing tower. The German Alpine Club has domiciliary rights here – this is no joke! The village district of Kaulsdorf is located on both sides of the Wuhle River. Later, the tour will take you around the edge of the settlement of Kaulsdorf and Mahlsdorf-Nord and the village of Hellersdorf to Hönow at the city limits.

Points of interest / background information:
  • Pyramid Exhibition Centre
  • Schleipfuhl nature conservation centre
  • Hans Dittmar monument
  • Kaulsdorf village centre
  • Wuhletal Valley
  • Wuhleseen lakes
  • Gardens of the World recreational park
  • Kienberg hill
  • Wuhletalwächter (German Alpine Club climbing tower)

Possible combinations: European Bicycle Route R1

Trail conditions / surface: mainly asphalted tracks

Maps / literature: "ADFC Fahrrad-Stadtplan Berlin: Fahrradstadtplan", 1:30.000 (Zentrum 1: 15.000), Pietruska Verlag, Auflage: 4 (20. August 2013), ISBN-13: 978-3934895911, Euro 6.90
