The approximately 14-kilometre cycle tour begins in Köllnitz, an ideal starting point for birdwatching. Especially in spring and summer, it is worth taking a look at the lake here, where you can observe common terns and ospreys.

Sart / Finish: Köllnitz

Length / Duration: 13.6 kilometres, approx. 1.5 hours

Nature of the route / route structure: Mainly paved paths, short sections as footpaths

Route: Köllnitz, Görsdorf-Busch, Görsdorf am Kutzingsee, Selchow, Köllnitz

Route description

From Köllnitz, the route leads along an avenue where numerous nightingales sing in the spring months. The route continues along the Buscher Weg to Görsdorf next to Kutzingsee. Leave your bike here, as the lake can only be circumnavigated on foot.

Attention: the section after the dacha settlement is a narrow track that can be slippery in wet weather.

There are many opportunities for birdwatching along the shore: numerous ducks and geese gather here in autumn and winter. Mute swans can often be observed at close range at the bathing area in Görsdorf (please do not feed them!). In winter, goosanders, red-breasted mergansers and great crested grebes can also be spotted. Marsh and pine tits, treecreepers, great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches and wrens live in the neighbouring woods and shore areas.

The return route initially follows the same route back to the Buscher Weg junction. From here, the route follows the Görsdorfer Weg to Selchow. In the open agricultural landscape, we are accompanied by the song of skylarks and the bright yellow of yellowhammers.

A detour to the lookout tower in Selchow offers a good opportunity to observe ospreys. The route then leads back to Köllnitz via Görsdorf-Busch. At the end, the Aalhof and the Köllnitzer Hofküche invite you to stop for a bite to eat.

Additional tips:

  • Best time: Worthwhile all year round, especially during the migration periods in spring and autumn.

  • Equipment: Binoculars or a spotting scope will improve your observation opportunities.

  • Refreshment stops: There are catering facilities in Köllnitz, like the Aalhof and the Köllnitzer Hofküche

  • Extension of the tour: The surrounding area offers numerous other cycling and hiking trails that are suitable for extending the tour.
