You can discover several green oases on this tour around Frankfurt (Oder). The Ziegenwerder is a special island of relaxation. Situated in the middle of the Oder River, a wooden suspension bridge leads over to the unspoilt island, which offers a habitat not only for a rich array of flora but also for lizards and native animals. In summer, the island is particularly popular with visitors and the popular beer garden is the perfect place to stop off for a drink.

A wildlife park was built on a former military shooting range on the western outskirts of Frankfurt (Oder) near the Rosengarten district of the town between 1994 - 2000. The adventure playground and a petting zoo attract particularly young visitors and give them a special closeness to native animals.

The "small Baltic” is located right on the outskirts of the town. This is what the locals call Lake Helenesee. The "Grube Helene” lignite opencast mine, which was flooded after 1958, is the second deepest lake in Brandenburg with a depth of more than 57 metres. Its excellent water quality makes it particularly popular with divers. With an area of 220 hectares, it offers a variety of beaches and water sports activities, such as surfing and pedal boating. It is not least the absolute favourite lake for bathing visitors from Frankfurt because of its water park. If you prefer going out in a boat instead of cycling, you can also charter a boat without a licence at the Marina Winterhafen and experience the Oder region from the water.

Length: 43 kilometres, about 4 hours by bike

Start & finish: Frankfurt (Oder) railway station

How to get there: RE1 regional express train to Frankfurt (Oder)

Sights:
  • Sportboot Marina am Winterhafen marina
  • Wupis am Waldhaus Rosengarten café
  • Helenesee - the small Baltic
