You will not just visit the actual monastery site when you follow in the footsteps of the old monks at the Kloster Neuzelle monastery because the monks acquired a multitude of places over the course of their lives. You will start the “Kleine Mönchstour” (Small Monk's Tour) by bike on the Oder-Neiße Cycle Path and head to Ratzdorf first. The village is located at the confluence of the Oder and Neiße Rivers and was first mentioned following its sale to the monks. Shipping influenced life here for a long time. Ratzdorf was a large trading centre in Lower Lusatia. The village's landmark is the Pegelhaus water gauge station, which measured a record high of 6.88 metres during the flood of the century in 1997. Coschen, Breslack, Wellmitz and Schwerzko also belonged to the Kloster Neuzelle monastery. The new "Neißewelle" Bridge in Coschen connects Brandenburg with Poland. The most famous abbot Martinus Graff was born in the monastery in Wellmitz. In the old cemetery in the churchyard there are four expiation crosses, which bear witness to the law at that time and are rarely found in this region. All the places that lie along the cycle path have many connections to the monastery. You should take a break and discover them.
