“Folks, we have to get some fresh air!” The WhatsApp group hums. Even if the day is well advanced: this entertaining bike tour has the right ingredients ready to spontaneously escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, breathe country air and discover new things in an atmosphere steeped in history.

Treat yourself to:

  • Historic small town ambience with lovingly renovated houses and alleys

  • Crystal clear water at Strauss and Bötzsee that invites you to linger or swim

  • Fun curves through the fragrant forest

  • Wide views over meadows and fields

  • Inspirational stories about exciting places

  • Craft beer or sparkling spritzers in a historic Schlossgut atmosphere

Start: Strausberg Nord S-Bahn station
Destination: S-Bahn Neuenhagen or optionally U-Bahn Hönow
Length: 28 km or 31 km / 2h pure travel time
How to get there by public transport: S5 to Strausberg Nord
Exit public transport: S5 from Neuenhagen / U5 from Hönow

Start in Strausberg, the green city on the lake

The S5 takes you from Ostkreuz to Strausberg Nord in just 45 minutes, from where you follow the "historic city center route 1" in the direction of Altlandsberg. You can finally take a deep breath and enjoy the great views of the Straussee and the woods opposite. You cycle through the old town of Strausberg in a relaxed manner, background information provides information on the "lake views", e.g. in the dreamy Fischerkietz. You pass the electric ferry pier and the historic seaside resort. If necessary, you can immerse yourself in the refreshing water at several natural swimming areas.

Lively through the forest

In Eggersdorf you touch the Bötzsee. At the lido with boat rental and near the Seeschloss you can take a break, e.g. for a paddle round or to taste artisanal sorbet. The wheels continue rolling through the "Strausberger and Blumenthaler forest and lake area", as the nature reserve is called here. You glide almost by yourself on the perfect bike path through the green-smelling forest. The many curved curves make you cheer inside and are really fun!

Prince-worthy ambience in Altlandsberg

After ¾ of the route you will reach Altlandsberg, which has a completely preserved town center and beautiful old town houses. The castle estate with the castle church, extensive manor complex and park is the ideal place to plan a stopover. The young Prince Friedrich was already strolling through the baroque pleasure garden here. The future King of Prussia wanted to promote his well-being in the country. You can do that too: with a refreshing spritzer, a fruity pale ale or other natural craft beer variants from the local brewery. Local delicacies are available in the regional shop. Regional is in, as is sustainability: the castle estate generates its own forest bioenergy for the area. Back to Berlin you go over the green ramparts and the Insta-compatible bicycle yard. A photo of the more than 120 bicycle frames on the impressive facade is worthwhile before boarding the S-Bahn in Neuenhagen. Alternatively, you can cycle from Altlandsberg to Hönow. So you fly over the best cyclist asphalt and wide fields towards the evening sun to end your country trip at the city limits on the U5.

Refreshment tips: amciceria Strausberg, Seeschloss ice cream parlor, Bötz restaurant in Villago, Altlandsberg castle estate with brewery, Berliner Tor ice cream parlor, Morstein's Neuenhagen, Hönow country house
