Route description

Enchanting places, tranquil lakes and winding paths reminiscent of a fairytale forest await in the Schlaubetal. This magical region invites you to step back in time on a cycling tour. Once, the Schlaube River powered numerous mills here – some of which can still be discovered today. The first, the large brick mill in Müllrose, is the oldest and last active mill in the valley still grinding grain. Others have been transformed into inviting restaurants and hotels, such as the Kaisermühle near the Oder–Spree Canal. A visit to the Ragower Mühle, the only one that has preserved its original mill technology, is like a small journey into the past.

But the Schlaubetal is not only known for its mills. Its diverse flora and fauna make it a haven for nature lovers: with a bit of luck you may spot a sea eagle soaring overhead, a kingfisher darting by, or hear the rhythmic tapping of a black woodpecker. The Schervenzsee is perfect for a rest and a refreshing swim, while the “Försterblick” viewpoint above Lake Wirchensee offers a stunning panorama. Gentle climbs and swift descents round off this 56-kilometre tour, making it an ideal way to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the region.

Tip: Before setting off, visit the Nature Park House next to the Haus des Gastes in Müllrose. Along the way, take time to pause, rest, and enjoy the silence.
