The town Müllrose can also be explored from the water. Müllrose, the ‘gateway to the Schlaubetal Valley’ is famous for its beautiful big Lake Müllroser See. However, there is also a waterway link between Lakes Kleiner Müllroser See and Katharienensee that crosses Müllrose and provides for ideal conditions for a canoe tour with the whole family. In just 1.5 hours you will experience the town from an all new perspective.

Start: Lake Kleiner Müllroser See
Finish: Lake Katharinensee
Length/duration: 3 or 6 kilometres (return) / about 1.5 or 3 hours

How to get there:
  • Public transport: From Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof), take the RE1 to Frankfurt (Oder), then the RB36 (Königs Wusterhausen) to Müllrose (about 1.5 hours)
  • Car: From Berlin via the A113 and A12 to Müllrose (about 1.5 hours).

Tour description:

The starting point is the Schlaubetal marina at Lake Kleiner Müllroser See. It is located just 300 metres from the historic market square in the centre of Müllrose.
Tip: At the market square in the historic centre of Müllrose, you will find the information centre and local history museum ‘Haus des Gastes’, the Schlaubetal information centre, the museum and the baroque parish church. The historic equipment store of the fire brigade with its wooden hose tower is located just around the corner, on Schiffbauerstrasse. It was built in 1925 and is well-worth a visit.

You cross Lake Kleiner Müllroser See to enter the Oder-Spree canal. The canal is the most important water transport route between Poland in Berlin and you will leave it once again after 600 metres to go on towards Lake Katharinensee. The Oder-Spree canal continues to Fürstenwalde and Königs Wusterhausen, via the rivers Dahme and Spree, and into Berlin. The canal is used mostly for goods transport by the commercial shipping industry.

The beautiful waterway of Katharinengraben, whose shores are dotted with poplar trees, is a great setting to relax your mind and your body. You will reach Lake Katharinensee after passing under Bahnhofstrasse. The beautiful lake is located just 200 metres to the east of Lake Großer Müllroser See. With its sunbathing lawn that is a great place for a picnic, boat and bicycle rental services and a restaurant with a conservatory and outdoor terrace, the bathing area at Lake Katharinensee is the perfect place to round off your day out. The lake is also a good fishing spot.

Tip: The romantic Schlaubetal Valley stretches towards the south-east from Müllrose. Unspoilt forests, big meadows, numerous idyllic lakes, the river Schlaube with its fish ladders, historic mills and nature trails make for your perfect nature adventure. It is a popular area for people from Berlin to escape the noise of the city and to enjoy the natural beauty and soothing silence in their free time and at the weekends. The Schlaubetal hiking trail is a must for all those wanting to explore the nature park on foot. The 25 kilometres long hiking trail from Müllrose to Lake Wirchensee was awarded the ‘Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland’ seal of quality by the German hiking association.

Nautical information: Quiet waterways without busy traffic or obstacles such as locks. The canoe tour is suitable for beginners and families.
