After a short section on the canalised Spree you will turn into Müggelspree at Große Tränke. Thanks to the slight current, your canoe will now float downstream pleasantly along the curvy route and past vast pastures bordering the man-made flood areas. The early morning mist makes for a very romantic setting.

For the first few kilometres of the tour, going past Hangelsberg, Mönchwinkel and Spreeau, you travel on a narrow stretch of the Spree. At the end of a relaxed day of touring you can berth in Spreenhagen or pitch your tent on the nearby Jägerbude campsite on the banks of the Spree. From here you will go on to the popular Lake Dämeritzsee in the heart of Erkner the next day.

Length/duration: 38 kilometres (2 to 3 days)

Start: Fürstenwalde

Finish: Erkner

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RE18117 (Frankfurt/Oder) to Fürstenwalde/Spree from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) (about 50 minutes).
  • Car: From Berlin via the A113, A10 and A12 to Fürstenwalde/Spree (about 1 hour).


Return journey:

  • Public transport: From Erkner, take the RE1 (Brandenburg) to Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) (about 30 minutes).
  • Car: From Erkner, take the RE1 (Brandenburg) to Fürstenwalde to return to your car (about 15 minutes).


Route: Fürstenwalde, Spree, Erkner

Side trip: To Woltersdorf via Lake Flaksee

Stops on the shore:

  • Erkner: Gerhart Hauptmann Museum
  • Woltersdorf: Woltersdorf lock
  • Observation tower at Kranichberg


Nautical information: Easy and family-friendly. This stretch of the Spree is very quiet, as all ship traffic is routed via the Oder-Spree canal after Fürstenwalde.
