Not far away from the gates of the german capital city you can find an idyllic river landscape, which you can discover from another perspective. The multifaceted shores of the rivers "Spree" and "Müggelspree" with all their flora and fauna offers you a great nature experience and the chance for relaxing. The train called "RE1" takes you in only one hour to "Fürstenwalde/Spree", where you can start our tours for late riser.

First proposal: drift with the current on the river "Müggelspree"

Our first tour takes you on the idyllic river called "Müggelspree". This paddletour can be recommended for beginners as well as families. More than two thirds of the distance run without any motorboat traffic and offers you therefore a wonderful nature adventure.

In the beginning you glide over the water and come over overgrown river arms. At the "Große Tränke" the river "Müggelspree" divert in a lock. The renaturalized river flows in widely meanders through varied meadows and forest landscapes. Perfect to come down!

You have enough time for breaks, spring into the river or go on for a picnic. Then it goes along the current. Grey heron, swans and ducks are your permanent companions. You can also see the work of the beaver along the route. Just before the finish line in Hangelsberg you arrive the civilization again.

Second proposal: along the river "Spree" to the hidden wreck of the "Hedwig"

Our second possible tour takes you to the wreck of the "Hedwig". That is a real insider tip. Improbably that you meet other people. Once the 120 year old tugboat pulled large barges over the river. Today it lies hidden at a river arm of the "Spree". Motorboats can´t geht there. But in your canoe you have the possibility to scout this exciting wreck. Your tour starts at the rental in Fürstenwalde. It goes upstream in the direction of Kersdorf, past the compound feed plant and the last houses of the city "Fürstenwalde". Most of the time it is very quiet on the river "Spree". Your first break could be in Berkenbrück at the water hiking rest area. There you can meet paddlers, which do the "Märkische Umfahrt".  At the small beach you can relax, go swimming or take a meal on the terrace of the restaurant "Strandidyll".

The next section is very exciting: Behind the water hiking rest area in "Streitberg" you have to find the hidden access to a small waterway. Because only behind you can find the final resting place of the old  "Hedwig". They say that the last owner died in 1960 in the engine room. After that the abandoned ship was left to his fate. Take your time to discover the wreck und enjoy the silence of nature. After that it goes downstream back to "Fürstenwalde". A flying visit in the downtown, at the cathedral or the surrounding cafés and restaurants it´s worth it.

For your planning:

  • Reserve your canoe at the rentals:
  • Oneway tour at the "Müggelspree": Kanusport Spree, kanu-spree.de, phone: 033632 - 679714, info@kanu-spree.de, start between 11 and 12 a. m.
