The impressive Scharmützelsee, affectionately called the “Märkische Meer” by Fontane, is a water sports paradise and awaits you with the perfect scenery. Embedded in the Saarow hill country and only 60km away from Berlin, you can discover the second largest natural water of Brandenburg from the SUP board. Real relaxation and close holiday happiness!

This is how you get into the flow:

  • Short journey: in just under an hour by train to Bad Saarow

  • Easy: a real beach atmosphere quickly emerges in Cecilienpark

  • Relaxing: sometimes gliding meditatively over the lake, sometimes paddling more actively. With SUP, the muscles are activated holistically.

  • Together: You can also borrow several boards and set off to sea together

  • Relaxed finish: end the day at the beach bar at sunset

Start and finish: Cecilienpark Bad Saarow. You can reach it in about 20 minutes on foot from Bad Saarow Klinikum station via Robert-Koch-Straße.
Length: 2 - 6 km / 2 - 4 hours
Getting there by public transport: RE1 to Fürstenwalde / Spree, then RB35 to Bad Saarow Klinikum
Departure public transport: RB35 from Bad Saarow Klinikum, further in Fürstenwalde with RE1, every hour

Real holiday feeling

Where better to combine active recreation, relaxation and enjoyment than at the Scharmützelsee. The "Märkisches Meer" offers you the perfect backdrop to get on your SUP board, set sail and enjoy some culinary delights.

Immediately you get a holiday feeling. A relaxed atmosphere, a fantastic view over the lake, crystal clear water and the seagulls screeching. The area at the bathing area in Cecilienpark includes a sandy beach, sunbathing lawn, beach volleyball, mini golf, canoeing and of course SUP. The Bavarian-inspired restaurant "Freilich am See" with a lake view and sun terrace, beer garden and bar takes care of your well-being.

Tip: Großer Werl circuit, Saarow peninsula and back

You can start your SUP adventure from the beach. If you are safe on the board, a short circuit is recommended. First we go over to the island of Großer Werl, which is about 500m southwest. Do you see the cormorants? They breed quite often here, and especially on the Kleiner Werl, a little to the south. Fun fact: White-tailed eagles also see cormorants as an enrichment to their diet! Then continue north along the Alte Eichen peninsula, where you can see the former manor "Eibenhof" with the impressive manor house. Finally we go back towards Cecilienpark. Alternatively, you can paddle along the east bank. Take a look towards the north: there you can see the Rauener Mountains, where you can experience real highs (Höhenflüge) for a change on your next visit.

Sundowner at the Märkisches Meer

Whether exhausted or not: after the tour you can of course indulge in modernly interpreted Bavarian specialties. Whether beer garden classics or special creations far above the restaurant level: you will taste it in the wonderful ambience.

If you still have the time and inclination, a walk to the center of Bad Saarow is a good idea. Historic villas line the lakeshore. Walk up to the Ludwig-Lesser-Promenade, take a last look from the panorama bridge over the sea and it goes back through the spa gardens to the Bad Saarow train station. Or you can chill a bit at the beach bar in Freilich. After all, the last train to Berlin doesn't leave until 10.30 p.m.;)
