First a knight's castle, then an episcopal estate, and finally once again the Hohenzollerns. Beeskow Castle, first mentioned in 1316, can look back on a varied history of construction and use. At that time, it belonged to the Lords of Strehle, the owners of the Beeskow-Storkow dominion, and formed a dense network of moated castles with the other complexes in the region.

Beeskow Castle was gradually transformed into a cultural and educational center starting in 1992. Since then, theater performances, concerts and festivals regularly bring the old walls to life. The complex makes it easy for visitors to imagine the knights, bishops, Prussians and all the other historical figures who walked these walls. The medieval castle ensemble invites everyone to get involved with past times. If you want to climb high, you can climb the 30-meter-high keep. Its viewing platform offers an impressive view of the city and its surroundings.

But the castle also invites visitors to pause for a moment. In the castle's café-restaurant and in the picturesque castle courtyard, there are plenty of opportunities to rest, chat and lean back. Beeskow Castle offers an appearance as a listed ensemble, which is essentially characterized by buildings that were constructed between 1250 and 1550.

MUSEUM OR-SPREE

For 65 years, Beeskow Castle - first mentioned in a document in 1316 - has housed a museum of local character. With the aim of understanding and shaping the region, it now sees itself as a place to work, learn and negotiate on issues affecting the future. The museum has its own entry on Ab-ins-Gruene.de and offers exciting temporary exhibitions as well as a museum workshop.

MUSIC MUSEUM BEESKOW

The Beeskow Music Museum is also located on the grounds. It is home to instruments dating from 1848 to 1927, an exciting journey through time where hundreds of types of instruments are on display and can be heard - many of which have been forgotten: an orchestrion, trumpet organs, automatic pianos, lyre boxes and music boxes. In addition to this fascinating collection, the museum's holdings also include several thousand rolls of sheet music that were used to play the automata.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the area regularly hosts up to three temporary exhibitions at the same time. The focus is on painting, graphic art, book art, sculpture and photography.

... AND THE CASTLE WRITERS OF BEESKOW

Authors who have already published three independent literary publications (not self-published) can apply for the office of castle writer. One lives for half a year in the simply equipped Burgschreiberstübchen. A stipend and free lodging allow the Burgschreiber:in to devote themselves completely to the castle ambience and to concentrate only on their literature.

BERGFRIED

At the moment there are no more permanent exhibitions in the keep, as it is currently undergoing a restructuring process. Soon there will be an exhibition for children here.
