The Neuzelle Monastery has two churches: The Church of the Holy Cross, located a little out of the way and somewhat smaller, was intended for public pastoral care and was built as a "people's church" for the people. Opposite this is the collegiate church of St. Mary, which was reserved for monks and monastery convents.

The cross-domed building was built on the site of the older gate church from the 14th century. Its vault, decorated with beautiful bandwork, opens onto the chancel into a mighty dome. Here you can see the triumph of the Catholic Church on the largest ceiling fresco in Lower Lusatia.

The Kreuzkirche revels in the Baroque era and the fresco in the dome measures 128 square meters, which allows believers to literally look at the sky.

After the Reformation, the monks in Neuzelle looked after the remaining Catholics in the region intensively. For this purpose, the Evangelical Church of the Holy Cross was built around 1730 in the Rococo style.

Since the monastery was dissolved in 1817, the church has been used as a Protestant parish church, while the former convent church of St. Mary remained Catholic. Today both communities exist in close proximity on the monastery grounds. A special feature in Brandenburg – Neuzelle is truly lived ecumenism.

The Evangelical Church of the Holy Cross can be visited individually or as part of a guided tour.
