The church in Steinsdorf stands out between the many little village churches of the region as a true architectural gem. The church on the village green was first mentioned in 1310. It received its current form centuries later, as it was rebuilt in 1749. The beautiful rectangular half-timbered building with its wooden canopy tower can be seen from afar. Its rather plain interior is a comfortable place to linger. The church is Steindorf’s only listed monument. Its outside façade and roof were comprehensively refurbished in 2003. Thanks to its wooden structure, the interior has a very harmonious atmosphere, despite being rather plain. A remarkable feature is a 14th century oak chest in the entrance area. Another interesting sight are four pulpit panels with paintings of apostles that may date back to the year of construction of 1749, but might also be older. The church has an organ that was built by Gustav Heinze S. Orgelbauanstalt in 1929. Further items of art-historical significance include the paten, chalice and pitcher, as well as the altar bread box (vasa sacra).

Visitors are very welcome to drop by and take a contemplative break. The ‘open church’ is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. between June and September.

The church in Steinsdorf used to be home to a wooden altar. The altar that unifies various epochs and is decorated with 16 wooden figurines, can look back on an exciting history. Following comprehensive renovation work, it has been presented in the cloister of the Neuzelle Monastery since 2018.
