The single-nave church in the centre of Buckow is located on a little hill in the heart of town, making it visible from afar. The first wooden church that was built on the site in 1250, was replaced with a granite structure around 1300 by Cistercian monks. In the context of the Reformation, the church got its first protestant pastor in 1541.

The church was damaged by fire a number of times as the years went by. Towards the end of the 17th century, the master builder Mathias gave the church its current shape as a baroque style plastered building. The interior was renovated in 1891. The church lost all its bells in the two world wars. On May 1, 1945, the church was completely destroyed, and it was rebuilt by the municipality between 1950 and 1951.

The church’s interior walls are painted white to contrast the dark wood panelling of the gallery and the ceiling. The organ was built by Hermann Eule from Bautzen.

It is worth taking a look inside the church. In the winter months the key can be kept at the tourist information. The church services are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The communities of Bollersdorf, Garzin / Garzau and Waldsieversdorf relate to the parish of Buckow / Märkische Schweiz.
