The Latin words Gratia Regis have adorned the triangular gable above the main entrance to Neuhardenberg Palace ever since the end of the 18th century. It expressed “thanks to the king”, since the then King Frederick William III had made a generous gift to State Chancellor Karl August Prince von Hardenberg by donating both the village and the castle to the eponym of the municipality. The impressive building with its single-storey three-winged complex is reminiscent of the Baroque period from the outside, but inside the palace there are also numerous early classical elements. Master builder Schinkel created a harmonious palace ensemble with the other surrounding buildings such as the Kavaliershaus, the orangery and the church, perfected with a park designed by Lenné. This is a setting where one particular famous actor and director likes to spend time, drawing on the unique backdrop for cinematic purposes:

Til Schweiger travelled with his production team and acting colleagues to Neuhardenberg for his comedy Klassentreffen 1.0. The palace played the same role in the film as it does in real life: that of an up-market hotel. This is where friends Tommy, Nils and Andreas arrive for a spa holiday: in their late forties, the three of them organise a 30-year anniversary class reunion to celebrate life and relive old memories. 

Known as Marxwalde from 1949 to 1990, the municipality was already used for filming by Til Schweiger some years earlier. At that time, the nearby Neuhardenberg airfield was the setting set for Schweiger’s romantic comedy Zweiohrküken. The more than 2,400-metre asphalted runway has a particular role to play in a dream that protagonist Ludo has. At the beginning of the film he imagines himself on this runway, where he meets his girlfriend Anna, who is suddenly completely different. 

Both the palace and the airfield are worth a visit in Neuhardenberg. The palace and its grounds are now a centre for art and culture, regularly attracting numerous visitors with a multi-faceted programme of exhibitions, readings and concerts. The impressive park is a wonderful place for a walk in a natural setting. The airfield can also be visited. In addition to model aircraft exhibits, the airfield museum also has an exhibition on the history of Neuhardenberg airfield from 1934 to the present day. There are many other places of interest in the Oderland, too. The Kneipp spa town of Buckow, for example, offers a wide range of outdoor and recreational activities as well as an excellent selection of culinary delights.

Zweiohrküken

When Ludo comes across an old flame (Edita Malovcic), Anna gets jealous – and rightly so: after all Ludo is obviously still interested. Ludo resists Anna's attempts to control him, demanding she give him some freedom. Unfortunately, it is just at this moment that Anna’s ex-boyfriend Ralf (Ken Duken) shows up – and suddenly Ludo is not so keen on his newly found freedom any more.
