Lake Genschmarer See lies less than five kilometres from the Polish border, set amid farmland. At around 3 kilometres in length (as the crow flies), the lake covers a good 25 hectares and is up to 100 metres wide. The shape of Lake Genschmarer See reveals its origin: it used to be a tributary of the River Oder and has an average depth of 2.5 metres. Today, there are plenty of water lilies here where carp and tench go in search of food and pike lie in wait for their prey to swim past. All three fish species are available in good quantities in Lake Genschmarer See. The largest of our indigenous species – the catfish – is likewise on the prowl here. In addition you can expect good-sized perch and the occasional zander.
  • Size: 28 hectares, depth: average 2 metres, up to 5 metres at the bend in the road
  • Fish species: eel, zander, pike, catfish, tench
  • Tenant/operator: Schlaubefisch e.G., Ernst-Thälmann-Str. 31B, 15306 Falkenhagen,

The approach is via Genschmar, and there are several fishing spots at the roadside. The deepest part of the lake (5 metres) is located at the bend in the road. If you have a small fishing boat you can discover the true dimensions of these extremely quiet waters by rowing. Large sections are barely more than two metres deep – ideal for carp and tench. There are hardly any ground structures. Due to the water lilies, you should select tackle that is slightly tougher so that a hooked fish can’t escape into the thicket and get lost at the last moment.

Predatory fish anglers will find everything they’re looking for in Lake Genschmarer See – eel and catfish at night, pike and perch during the day. It sounds promising – and it is! Pike weighing up to 28 pounds and good-sized eels and catfish over 1.50 metres in length have been caught here. In 2011, a more than two-metre-long catfish from the Oder was even released into Lake Genschmarer See with witnesses – and that’s no fisherman’s tale.
