The Messeteich, also known as Westkreuzteich, is located on the western outskirts of Frankfurt (Oder). The 1.2-hectare lake was created from a former clay pit and is surrounded by trees. Despite its proximity to the exhibition grounds, it is characterised by tranquillity and natural surroundings. While urban development borders the lake to the north and east, agricultural land borders it to the south and west.

The lake, which is up to twelve metres deep, is suitable for short fishing trips. Trout are stocked once a year. The banks are steep in places and overgrown with reeds. In summer, weeds and algae may form.
