This is a region that really rocks! The Ice Age formed the landscape, but it also left behind some amazing natural monuments - scattered boulders. The largest and most famous boulder is the “Kobbelner Stein”. This “Colossus”, which is 7.1 metres long, 5.2 metres wide and 4.5 metres high, was excavated in 1925. It is around 25 metres in circumference and weighs around 256 tonnes. Massive forces transported the granite stone from the Danish island of Bornholm to Kobbeln.

An open-air “classroom” has been built by the Kobbelner Stein. On the newly created nature trail, visitors can learn all about the Ice Age and how this giant boulder ended up in Kobbeln. In addition to information displays, there are also lots of activities providing information about the local forest.

2 circular trails have been created around the Kobbelner Stein (Tour 1: 3.7 kilometres and Tour 2: 1.2 kilometres). Kobbeln is right by the Oder-Spree Cycle Path on the “Monks’ Tour” and the Oder-Spree-Dahme Cycle Path.
