The third and last stage of the Oderland route runs for 21 kilometres from Wölsickendorf back to Wriezen. Once again, this tour is characterised by its varied landscape. From Wölsickendorf, the route leads to the lowland of the Baasee Moor. The landscape becomes more hilly after Sonnenburg. The “Biesdorfer Kehlen” dry valley provides a completely different landscape impression and takes hikers back to the starting point at Wriezen.

Length: 21 kilometres (5 hours)

Start: Wölsickendorf

Finish: Wriezen

Logo/route sign: Red dot on a white background

How to get there: From Berlin Ostkreuz, take the regional train RB25 to Werneuchen. From here, take bus 887 (Bad Freienwalde) to Wölsickendorf (around 1 hour).

Return journey: Take the RB60 from Wriezen to Eberswalde. Continue from here by taking the RE3 (Lutherstadt-Wittenberg) to Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) (about 1.5 hours).

Route: Wölsickendorf, Wölsickendorf-Wollenberg, Rädikow, Sonnenburg, Wriezen

Route description:

After Wollenberg, the village street becomes a forest path winding through a clear mixed forest. On the L35 turn right, then follow the marking at the parking area on the forest path which leads past small ponds through the forest. A surfaced road leads up to the plateau. It then runs down to Baasee Moor, which looks like a submerged floodplain forest. Steps lead via a slope to the nature trail hut, revealing Lake Baasee. The path leads through the moor and lake, past the highest tree, a mighty Douglas fir, to the Waldschänke (forest café) by Lake Baasee. Turn left in the parking area and continue through the forest to Sonnenburg. Once you leave the forest, the landscape changes. Sandy paths lead through meadows and fields. The route passes through a dry valley, the Biesdorfer Kehlen nature conservation area, with its typical vegetation to the Waldbad bathing lake; the path then leads back to the hikers’ parking area by the town lake to Wriezen.

Underfoot conditions/surface: Forest and dirt tracks, roads
