This long yet entertaining stage reaches the northernmost tip of the 66 Lakes Trail and, unusually, passes through an area entirely devoid of lakes. From Biesenthal to Falkenberg, it winds its way through dense woodland and a few small villages. Between Schönholz and Trampe, the route crosses the secluded Nonnenfließ stream. The Cöthen stream valley and Carlsburg on the edge of the Oderbruch region already inspired Fontane on his walks. The tour ends at Falkenberg station and can also be shortened by starting in Melchow.

Directions/Fun Facts: The walk begins at Biesenthal railway station. After about two kilometres, you reach Melchow via a path running parallel to the railway line. There, you cross the tracks and walk into the village as far as the historic smithy. Diagonally opposite it, Bäcker Haupt is a good place to stock up on provisions. The walk along Alte Dorfstraße and on along quiet woodland paths is delightful all the way to Schönholz. You’ll quickly pass through this little village in the middle of nowhere. The route then takes you through mixed woodland to Trampe, where the 66 Lakes Trail was officially opened in June 2000. It’s well worth a detour to the overgrown estate park and the ruins of a 14th-century castle. The route continues – always eastwards – through the forest to Cöthen and Falkenberg. Between the two villages, the path leads through the unspoilt Cöthen Park with its old waterwheel and waterfall. From the Paschenberg, home to the Carlsburg restaurant, you have a magnificent view stretching far across the Oderbruch.
