Start / End: Waldseehotel Wirchensee

Length: 3.5 kilometers

Duration: approx. 2–3 hours

Path condition: natural trails, mostly along the lakeshore

Route: Waldseehotel, lakeshore path, peninsula, circular trail around the lake

Route description

The tour begins at the parking area of the Waldseehotel Wirchensee, located on a narrow land strip between Lake Stubben and Lake Wirchensee. Even at the start, various ducks such as mallards, goldeneyes, and goosanders can be observed in winter. The path leads briefly back along the “Weg zum Wirchensee” and then turns south onto a trail that circles the lake, mostly close to the water. A side path leads to a peninsula offering ideal views of both the northern and southern parts of the lake. With a bit of patience, kingfishers can be spotted here.

The contrast between water, forest, and open space provides habitat for siskins, various tits, woodpeckers, and goldcrests. Despite the short distance, the area's bird diversity invites extended observation.

Additional tips:

Best time: Especially rewarding in winter and spring

Equipment: Binoculars or spotting scope recommended

Dining options: Waldseehotel Wirchensee

Extension: Additional trails lead to nearby forests and lakes.
