Start / Finish: “Schweizer Haus” nature park visitor center

Length / Duration: 3 kilometers, just under 1 hour

Nature of the path / route: mainly unpaved paths

Course: “Schweizer Haus” Nature Park Visitor Center, Höpfenweg, Kleiner Tornowsee, Giebelpfuhl, ‘Schweizer Haus’ Nature Park Visitor Center

Route description

The hike begins at the “Schweizer Haus” visitor center, which offers interesting information about the nature park. Directly behind the building, the trail leads into an impressive beech forest and to the Stöbber, which is crossed. The Höpfenweg branches off here and runs alongside the stream. In the bushes, you can see long-tailed tits all year round, which are easy to spot with their long tails.

The trail continues to the Kleiner Tornowsee lake, which is circumnavigated. The buzzing song of the wood warbler can be heard here, especially in spring and summer. These small, greenish-yellow birds build their nests on the ground - a reason to stay on the paths. Various thrush species such as song thrush, blackbird and mistle thrush can also be observed. Their melodic song makes the forest an acoustic experience, especially in the morning.

From Kleiner Tornowsee, the trail leads through the forest back to the starting point at the visitor center.

Further observation opportunities:

  • Rotes Luch (southwest of Buckow): Particularly good chances of spotting birds of prey such as buzzards and red kites.

  • Nature park hiking route (20.9 km): A circular route through the entire nature park with over 200 bird species.

  • Natura Trail (17 km): Leads through the gorges and ravines of Märkische Schweiz with numerous opportunities for bird watching.
