"Please close the pasture gate for the sheep!"  In this idyllic brook valley you slow down in another world.

You want to get out into nature, but don't feel like driving far? Very simple: the Regional Express 1 takes you out of the hectic city life directly into the natural idyll in just 20 minutes. Right behind the city limits, with the Berlin garden neighbors between Fangschleuse, Erkner and Woltersdorf, this short late-riser tour lets you immerse yourself in the wild and romantic atmosphere of the Löcknitz river. Follow the 66-lake hiking trail on a natural path, through rustic forest, marshland and small meadows that you share with peaceful sheep. Impressive trees with low-hanging branches, huge ferns and lush greenery: in some places you will feel like you are in the jungle.

Your late riser highlights:

  • Short journey by train / S-Bahn
  • mostly narrow, natural paths
  • Forest bathing at Löcknitz, Wupatz and Flakensee
  • Snack stops in Erkner or at the Woltersdorf lock

Start: Fangschleuse station

Sheep and (stone) frogs are in charge in the “Löcknitz jungle”

You get off the train and only a few hundred meters separate you from the entrance to the Löcknitztal. Let's go on the path of the 66-lake hiking trail and the meandering old Löcknitz. You hear the crack of pine needles under the soles of your shoes, listen to the chiffchaff chirping its name or just pause. Finally take a deep breath. The trail also leads over near-natural pastures. Please always close the wooden gates, because friendly sheep graze here in the seemingly wild nature. With a little persuasion, the permanent chewing landscape maintenance workers also come closer. If not, it's worth taking a selfie with one of the stone frogs guarding the clear river on a bridge.

Mystical Wupatzsee

After you have crossed the old and new Löcknitz over beautiful wooden bridges, the focus is on the Wupatzsee, which is lined with reeds and alders. Maybe you are there when the water lilies are in bloom or you can enjoy the many lilies of the valley in spring. The Wupatz nature trail provides information on natural features. When you arrive in Erkner, you can stop over with ice cream or your own roasted coffee before heading to the train station.

Optional finale: forest poetry and a swim in the Flakensee

Perhaps you would like to extend your late riser tour and follow the Löcknitz to the Woltersdorf lock. Because the path here offers wonderful views of the Flakensee, benches invite you to linger and small swimming areas also invite you to splash around. The forest poetry path that runs here connects nature and literature on information boards. Fontane is not far either. You can end your tour in the excursion restaurants at the Woltersdorfer Schleuse, e.g. with cakes, snacks or home-brewed food in the beer garden. Well rested, you can take the tram, sometimes in a historic car, to the Rahnsdorf S-Bahn station and back to the urban jungle.

Refreshment tips: DEKAFFEE Erkner, Iced coffee Bürgerle, Badebar Erkner, Schleuse Woltersdorf

Plan your late riser hiking tour now and come to the Lakeland!
