Start / Finish Wendisch Rietz railway station / Bad Saarow railway station
Length / Duration 15 km / approx. 3.5 - 4h pure walking time
Arrival by public transport: RE/S-Bahn to Königs-Wusterhausen, then RB36 to Wendisch Rietz
Departure public transport: From Bad Saarow with RB35, continue in Fürstenwalde with RE1, hourly

Journey tip:

When you arrive at Wendisch Rietz railway station, keep to the right and follow the main road for a short distance. To get to the perfect starting point for the shore hike, simply follow the Schwarzhorner Weg to Fischland Scharmützelsee. And then you're ready to go!

It will do you good:

  • One-way tour on the ‘Uferwanderweg Westufer’ with great views
  • Recharge your batteries in beautiful nature. Omnipresent: the crystal-clear Scharmützelsee lake
  • Many natural bathing spots and beaches
  • Real foodie highlights by the water with a finale in Bad Saarow

Scandinavian flair in Wendisch Rietz

After around 70 minutes, the regional railway stops in little Wendisch Rietz. Can you already hear the seagulls calling? Here, the Scharmützelsee opens up to the north and off you go on the lakeside hiking trail. On the way through Wendisch Rietz, you will pass a few restaurants; next to the campsite, the ‘Heimathafen bei Uwe’ offers fish sandwiches, fish dishes, coffee and cake and drinks. You can take a look at Sweden with a detour to the harbour area. In typical Scandinavian style, the red and yellow wooden houses greet you from the water.

Nature and steep banks

After crossing the town, you dive deeper into nature. Next to the nature trail, the terrain slopes noticeably down to the lake and you walk through the steep bank forest towards Saarow beach.

The perfect lake view

... from the terraces of the ‘Dorsch’. When the sun is shining and there's a light breeze, you'll feel like you're by the sea with a view of the marina. But you're in Brandenburg and the Dorsch also cooks with regional ingredients: fish from Scharmützelsee, cheese from Hof Marienhöhe, meat from Fürstenwalde or vegan chilli sin carne.

Beach or sunbathing lawn

Need to cool off? The former Neptun lido with its lost place character and the Kleistpark and Lustgarten bathing spots opposite Kormoraninsel offer you fantastic views of the maritime hustle and bustle - and the best bathing water quality.

Tour finale: sophisticated architecture and foodie hotspot in Bad Saarow

The ‘skyline’ of Bad Saarow can already be seen on the last few kilometres. Magnificent historic villas line the lakeshore. The pace is relaxed and you can just drift along. Time to round off your late-riser tour with a culinary reward. Whether it's a classic beer garden under chestnut trees, a steakhouse, regional cuisine, an Italian restaurant or café, a ramen soup or a crossover between Peru and Japan - the choice is yours! How about a relaxed après-hike at Nobelscharf? Avocado fries, currywurst and champagne are not mutually exclusive in this casual beach bar. By the way: the last train leaves for Berlin at 10.30 pm.

Refreshment tips:

  • Wendisch Rietz: Homemade lemonade at the Ateliercafe
  • Saarow beach: Das Dorsch
  • Bad Saarow: Saarow Marina ice cream parlour, beer garden at Scharmützelsee, coffee roastery, Amiceria, Le Gâteau rose and many more options
