Take me to the lake! On this tour you can simply relax by the lake, enjoy the sun and green nature and discover many small, hidden bays. The crystal clear Straussee invites you to linger and swim - the perfect break from the noisy city.

Your lake experience:

  • Relaxing: leisurely tour, on the wooded bank of the Straussee and through the quiet old town, no motor boats, no noise

  • Sustainable: translate with the electrically powered Strauss Sea ferry

  • Panorama: great view of the skyline of the old town Strausberg

  • Refreshing: soft lake water on the skin, many bathing bays and sunbathing areas, just let yourself drift

  • Also for families: flat areas, playgrounds, boat rentals

Start & finish: Strausberg Stadt S-Bahn station
Length: 7.5 km / approx. 2 - 2.5 hours
How to get there by public transport: S5 to Strausberg Stadt station
Exit public transport: Strausberg Stadt: S5

With the S-Bahn directly to the lake

It starts at Strausberg train station, where the S5 takes you from the big city to the green city on the lake after around 45 minutes, as the locals lovingly call their Strausberg. Only a few hundred meters separate you from the first view of the Straussee. After a short walk through the medieval town center and along the city wall, you will come to the Straussee ferry pier. You will be greeted by the fresh smell of the sea, the ducks and swans, and some rudds frolic in the particularly clear water.

Climate-friendly into the “afterlife” and into nature

Now it's time to take the ferry across and you can enjoy the light breeze of the airstream. The journey takes 7 minutes with a fantastic panoramic view of Strausberg's old town. Fun fact: the Strausseefähre is the only overhead line electrically operated passenger cable ferry in Europe. For over 100 years it has been connecting the city center with the forest area “Beyond the Lake”, where you can continue your late riser tour. Here on the west bank of the Straussee you will find many hidden natural swimming spots along the wooded riverside path. Sunny and shady spots alternate and you can always enjoy the beautiful view of the lake. Almost all of the bank is open to the public. The water is clear and clean with a depth of up to 7m and if you look closely you can see the green seagrass meadows shimmering through. There are no annoying motor boats, the lake is very rich in fish and you will see many water birds.

Quiet old town atmosphere

The tour takes you back to the east side of the lake via the north shore. Before you dive into the historic old town, you will also pass small spots and idyllic lawns on the shore that offer space for you and your blanket. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere! Towards the end of the tour you should turn off the Klosterstrasse into the dreamy Fischerkietz. Traditionally, fishing was part of the livelihood of the neighborhood residents. Today a small viewing platform is idyllically hidden here. Background information is provided by several information points for the “lake views” that you will discover again and again along your tour. The well-preserved city fortifications with city walls, the ramparts or the rest of the Landsberg gate tower are also worth a stop.

Straussee sundowner

Before you start your way back with the S-Bahn: how about a sundowner with a view over the lake? In the dignified restaurant in the Fischerkiez, in the casual Amiceria or just like that on the Strausseepromenade you can watch the sun go down and let your tour end.

Refreshment tips Strausberg:

Amiceria am See, Restaurant am Fischerkiez, Tortenduft
