A walk through Eisenhüttenstadt takes you on a journey back in time to the former GDR. Cineastes and architecture enthusiasts will get their money's worth, as will people who love nature and need plenty of air to breathe.

Built in the 1950s as the first socialist planned city for the workers of the steelworks, the architecture and history of the former GDR can be experienced up close here. The magazine "Geo-Saison" named the "Iron Hot City", freely translated by Tom Hanks, one of the top cities in 2023. The city tour leads through the listed residential complexes one to three. In addition to special buildings, sculptures, murals, mosaics and generously designed open spaces characterize the unmistakable cityscape. Be sure to visit the museums. The Utopia and Everyday Life Museum can draw on a huge collection of things that contribute to the reappraisal of GDR history. If you still feel like exploring, you can hire a bike from the tourist information office and discover the Hüttenstadt suburb of Fürstenberg (Oder). It stands in stark contrast to the socialist model town with its narrow alleyways, the old fishermen's quarter and a 14th century parish church. Works by GDR artists can be viewed in the town museum. Those who like historic vehicles will get their money's worth in the fire department and technology museum.

For an even more nostalgic feeling, you can also book a city tour in a Trabant at the tourist information office.
