This tour is a mecca for enthusiastic mountain climbers. After just under an hour's train ride from Berlin, mountaineers can work on their head for heights and physical fitness on a 20-kilometre long course. The Ice Age glaciers have left behind hilly trails in the Oberbarnim area between Falkenberg and Bad Freienwalde that will take you right from the start at Falkenberg railway station on a steep climb up to the ancient ridgeway on plateau of the Giant Mountains. From there, it's worth making a detour to the Bismarckturm monument with a fantastic view of the Niederfinow boat life or the dark Teufelsklamm Gorge. On the main route you will soon reach the summit cross on the Watzmann mountain, which has the same name as the acclaimed Watzmann mountain in the Bavarian Alps and measures a proud 1,062 metres above sea level. A winding path then leads downhill to the Mariannenschlucht Gorge, after which you will need muscle strength for another climb. After a rest at the top, the tour leads along the small mountain stream through the Ahrendskehle Gorge down to Lake Teufelsee. You will be just above sea level again at this point before you make the climb up to the Thüringer Blick viewpoint. The Eulenturm tower in the garden of the Haus der Naturpflege museum, the Papengrund ski jump, the Schanzenturm tower and the Brunnental Valley are further stages on the way to reaching your destination. The biggest challenge is the steep 225-step climb to the small chapel, before heading to the final stop at the observation tower on the Galgenberg hill. If you find the route too hard, then you are not fit enough!
