Arrival by public transport: RB24 or S-Bahn to Königs-Wusterhausen, then RB36 to Wendisch Rietz. Return the other way round.

Into the nature park Dahme-Heideseen

The RB36 drops you off in tranquil Wendisch Rietz, where your late riser tour starts. The nearby Scharmützelsee greets you briefly on the platform, but you follow the 66-lake path in the direction of the Glubigschleuse and the small canal that connects the Glubigsee chain with the large Scharmützelsee. Like most of the lakes in the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park, they are the result of the last ice age. Melt water from the glaciers left five interconnected lakes and a varied landscape.

It goes first around the small Glubigsee. Right at the beginning you have a chance to catch a glimpse of the peaceful atmosphere with water lilies, fishing boats and Brandenburg jetty culture. A well-hidden access with a bench is located in the shade of trees. Along a wooden plank path and through alder forest you will reach the Great Glubig Lake. Finally, water, space and forest in perfect combination. In October, when the shore forests greet you colorfully, Indian Summer Feeling comes up. The path on the eastern shore leads to two beautiful bathing spots. A small sandy beach or a practical wooden footbridge entice you to jump into the water.

Hidden Spring Lake Springs

The equally forest-lined Springsee now lies still and clear before you. On the eastern side of the lake you come to two springs, which gave the lake its name: "Spring" is old German and means spring. In the sloping terrain groundwater comes to light, which is also often used as Easter water. It is said to have special healing powers. The springs are natural monuments that support special vegetation and supply the lakes with clean water. Can you find the small Springsee spring? It is somewhat hidden next to the memorial stone for the resistance fighters against the Nazi regime Charlotte and Erich Garske. The Garskes were enthusiastic sportsmen and nature lovers and often stayed at Springsee. The Great Springsee Spring, on the other hand, almost reaches the size of a stream. The water is cold and very clear. You will notice the beautiful ferns. False watercress also feels at home in the cool, moist environment. With very high vitamin C content, it could also enhance your next salad.

In addition to small, hidden water accesses, there is a beach at the nature campsite on the south shore. Can the clear, soft lake water tempt you to swim a round among grebes and coots? If you don't have any provisions with you: a snack bar will be happy to serve you here at about the halfway point.

Mysterious western shore

By the way, Springsee is guarding a secret. In GDR times, the top-secret military organization "Gruppe Ralf Foster" held training camps here to carry out sabotage, attacks and prisoner liberations on the territory of the Federal Republic. Even today, the western shore of the lake is a restricted military area, as you will easily recognize from the many warning signs. I wonder what the camouflage and deception department of the Bundewehr is doing in these woods. But don't worry, as long as you stay on the shore path, nothing will burn. Just walk around the campground fence at the end of Spring Lake and follow the shoreline trail north.

In all likelihood, you'll encounter few visitors in this lovely tranquility and have the gorgeous trail to yourself. Again and again it goes up and down. You may notice the different looking trees. Red oak, Tuja, Weymouth pine, sweet chestnut and Douglas fir were planted in the 1960s for research purposes. The North American tree species add a special flair to the west shore.

A cozy finale

At the end of the tour you will once again come to the Großer Globigsee. A nice resting and bathing place gives you a free view over the lake and the wide reed belts. Finally you reach the small Glubigsee again. Idyllically situated on a small peninsula is a house with a thatched roof. In the Fisch-Haus you get delicious fish dishes. It's best to head for a place on the terrace with a view of the lake. Fish sandwiches are also available. If you're more in the mood for cake and ice cream, you should take a little detour to Wendisch Rietz. The cozy Atelier Café with its romantic garden also offers coffee specialties and homemade apple-mint lemonade.
