Route description

The tour starts at the over 800-year-old Storkow Castle (Mark). Originally founded as Streleburg, it now serves as a cultural centre hosting events, housing a library, a tourist information office and the visitor centre for the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park.

From the castle courtyard, the route continues to the Town Hall, which was built in 1896 as the ‘New Royal District Court’. Just a few steps away stands the striking Sparkasse building, once known as the ‘Stadt Berlin’ hotel, which played a central role in town life until it was destroyed during the Second World War.

The 12th-century brick church, built by Cistercian monks, is a striking example of Romanesque architecture. Despite several fires and restorations, the fieldstone plinth and the old churchyard bear witness to its long history. Until 1818, the site served as a cemetery, and a Luther oak commemorates the Reformer.

A highlight is the historic wooden bascule bridge on the Storkow Canal. Built in 1746 based on a Dutch design, the bridge is a fascinating sight, especially when water sports enthusiasts open or close it by hand.

The Scheunenviertel district tells the story of the town fires of the 18th century, which made the construction of these warehouses necessary. The tour concludes at the Storkow lido, which has been attracting bathers since 1891 and is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere.
