This is how you enjoy yourself:

  • Protected: out and about in the Strausberger and Blumenthaler forest and lake areas

  • Hidden: discover the Bötzsee, which is almost completely surrounded by forest and filled with wild natural swimming areas

  • Clear and calm: clean water and no annoying motor boats

  • Delicious: treat yourself to an ice cream or snacks in Eggersdorf after the tour

Start & finish: Tram stop Schlagmühle
Length: 11.5 km / 3.5 hours
Getting there by public transport: S5 / RB26 to Strausberg train station, then tram 89 to the Schlagmühle stop. Alternatively, you can also go directly to the S-Bahn station. Hegermühle
Departure public transport: Tram 89 from Schlagmühle to Strausberg station, then S5 / RB26

Quiet and discreet: the Bötzsee

The regional train 26 or the S5 will quickly get you out of the big city and into the countryside. From Strausberg train station, take the 89 tram to Schlagmühle or hike directly from Hegermühle S-Bahn station. The Bötzsee, created in the Ice Age, is slightly hidden and offers the best water quality and visibility depths of up to 4 m. It's quiet and you won't be disturbed by motor boats. On the other hand, on the lake you will see nimble great crested grebes, coots calling "treacherously" and elegant herons. On its wooded banks you will also find the protected wood anemone in spring.

Idyllic east bank

We start on the European long-distance hiking trail E11, and later on the 66-Seen-Weg. You walk past weekend houses and fields in the Postbruch recreation area and come to the Bötzsee. On the slightly steep bank, a narrow nature path leads directly along the water. You will discover large and small bathing spots as the path meanders through shady forest to the northern tip of the water. Here and there there are small benches, wooden tables and idyllic picnic spots. During a break, you might watch the peaceful grass snakes as they glide elegantly through the clear lake water in the bank area. There are even some rope swings from which you can swing yourself into the refreshing water!

Wild west side

The path on the west side of the lake usually leads close to the shore or halfway through the beautiful forest. Here you will find wonderful peace and protection from the sun. It goes up and down. You will feel like you are in the wild at times.

Culinary reward

In Eggersdorf you finally leave the riverside path. At the family-friendly and barrier-free lido Bötzsee (entrance) there is the widest sandy beach and you can jump into the water again if necessary: from two jetties, from the diving tower or directly from the rowing boat you rent. Your tour now goes a few hundred meters along the road and you have the opportunity to end the day with culinary delights. How about an ice cream on the terrace of the Hotel Seeschloss, where you can enjoy the fantastic view over the lake again? Or enjoy yourself in the funny painted Osteria Del Maiale Pezzato - the spotted pig - before heading back towards the metropolis.

Refreshment tips Eggersdorf: Ice cream at the Seeschloss, Restaurant Bötz in Villago, Osteria Del Maiale Pezzato - the spotted pig
