Length: 4.5 km / 1:30h

Start / Finish: Wirchensee hikers' car park (Am Wirchensee)

Logo / trail sign: yellow dot (circular trail)

Arrival / Departure:

Public transport: From Berlin with the RE1 to Eisenhüttenstadt, then with bus line 401 to the "Treppeln Schlaubemühle" stop.

By car: From Berlin, take the A12 motorway, exit Müllrose and follow the L37 road to the Wirchensee hikers' car park (Am Wirchensee).

The hike starts at the designated hikers' car park and leads along the so-called "Stubbenloch" towards the Wirchensee. This body of water is located in the southern part of the Schlaube valley and is crossed by the river Schlaube, which gives it its name. The Wirchensee is part of one of the most important protected areas in East Brandenburg and is home to many rare animal and plant species. An easy forest path soon leads to a turnoff that leads to a small peninsula. The detour to the "Großer Horst" is an absolute recommendation, as bird species such as ospreys and white-tailed eagles, some of which are protected species, live here. The path, which is lined with mixed forest, offers many opportunities for resting and sitting. Like the large "Försterblick" refuge, from which you can enjoy a fantastic view of Lake Wirchen. Passing a 200-year-old pine tree, you reach the Wirchen meadows with a great variety of sedges and grasses. On the unspoilt circular hiking trail, you can enjoy a beautiful lake view almost all the way and can always take a relaxing break in between.

Highlights along the tour:
  • Headland/peninsula Wirchensee
  • Forester's view
  • 200-year-old pine tree
  • Wirchensee bridge over the Schlaube
  • Wirchen meadows
  • western Wirchenberge
  • Restaurant Waldseehotel Wirchensee

Possible combinations:

  • Schlaubetal hiking trail

Tips for refreshments:

  • Restaurant at the Waldseehotel Wirchensee
