Only a few meters away from the monastery is this small protected landscape area. The deciduous forest was planted and cultivated many centuries ago by the Cistercian monks with various woody plants. It forms a strong contrast to the table-flat meadows and gives the impression that one is in the low mountain range. The small forest is a popular destination for recreation seekers in all seasons.

Hikers are welcome to crisscross the forest. Winding paths and steep slopes lead to the heart, star or moon mountain and make this tour an experience. But beware, sometimes it is also very rustic and you have to overcome one or the other tree. Here the forest is not swept, but natural as Mother Nature has created it over many years.

Tip: It is especially beautiful when the lesser celandine spreads like a carpet in spring or when the leaves of the beech, linden, maple, elm and oak trees turn into a true sea of colors in autumn.

The best way to reach the pheasant forest is through the southern entrance of the monastery (Evangelical Church of the Holy Cross).

Places of interest along the route: Neuzelle Monastery, view over the Oder floodplains.

Information on site: Neuzelle visitor information
Maps/Literature: Beautiful Homeland - Nature Park Schlaubetal, Frankfurt (Oder), Guben, Eisenhüttenstadt and surroundings 1:50.000 Dr. Barthel Verlag

Gastronomy: Klosterklause Neuzelle, Landhotel Prinz Albrecht, Wilde Klosterküche

Arrival and departure: Car A12 exit Müllrose or exit A12 Frankfurt (Oder) and continue on the B112.

Train RE 1 and further RB 11

Difficulty: easy to difficult
