How to get there:
  • Public transport: From Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) take the regional train S5 to Strausberg Nord (around 1 hour)
  • Car: From Berlin along the B109, A10, L33 and the ring road to Strausberg Nord (around 1 hour)

Route: Strausberg Nord, Von Hardenberg Barracks, airfield, Von Hardenberg Barracks, children’s farm, southwards along Lake Torfstichsee, Lake Straussee, Strausberg Nord

Route description: Strausberg Airfield is just 10 minutes on foot from the station. It looks back on a chequered history covering 70 years. Until 1992, the airfield was used mainly for military purposes and was home, for example, to what was then the Government Air Squadron until the end of the GDR. But probably only a few people will know that Strausberg Airfield is now one of the most frequently used landing airfields for small aircraft and gliders in north-east Germany. A historic flight museum and an exhibition of various flying devices provide an exciting insight into the history of aviation. Visitors who would like to fly a plane themselves can pay for a flying lesson, to be booked in advance, or else take a circular flight over Strausberg so that they can admire the town and beautiful lake from above. After an instructive museum, animal lovers and families with children can take a diversion into the nearby “Roter Hof” children’s farm, with petting zoo and new playground. You can round off the day happily in the cosy Gasthof Strausberg Nord inn.

Sights:

  • Airfield
  • Children’s farm

Possible combinations:

  • 66-Lakes Trail
