The pyramid in Garzau, the largest fieldstone pyramid in Germany, is the central landmark of the former castle park. It was built by Count Friedrich Wilhelm Carl von Schmettau (1743 - 1806), a Prussian officer and sovereign, in the late 18th century. The pyramid comprises a vaulted cellar, chambers, a main hall, a portal and a dome. Since 2000, a support association has been committed to the reconstruction and preservation of the building.

The Garzau estate was purchased by von Schmettau in 1779 and an extensive landscaped garden with numerous staffage buildings was laid out to the north of the village. Today, the park is largely wooded and the original structure no longer exists. However, some paths still connect the park with the village and lead to the mountain sheep farm, among other places.

The pyramid itself can be viewed from the outside in the former castle park. A leaflet about the history and reconstruction of the pyramid is available from the Märkische Schweiz tourist information office in Buckow. There are also regular guided tours and concerts, which are announced on the website of the “Pyramide und Schlosspark Garzau e.V.” association.

The open-air concerts, which traditionally take place at the pyramid on the last weekend in August, are particularly recommended.
