The August Bier Foundation horseback trekking station lies in the heart of the Sauen Forest, near Beeskow, and offers a very unusual forest experience. 460 botanic rarities were planted here by the world-famous surgeon, philosopher and forest doctor August Bier in 1912 to “heal the forest”. The district forester will accompany you on a horseback ride (with headset) through the forest and show how an overworked pinewood heathland was turned into a fairy-tale forest. But you can also discover the forest under your own steam. You can search for treasure with geocaching equipment or rent an audio guide, which means that non-riding members of the family can discover the area too.
